The 56A District Court is at 1045 Independence Blvd. in Charlotte. Phone is (517) 543-7500. This court handles misdemeanors, traffic offenses, and civil matters under $25,000. The 5th Circuit Court is at the same address and phone number. Circuit court covers felonies, family law, and appeals from district court.

Bench warrants are common in both courts. Judges issue them when someone skips a hearing or violates a court order. Under MCL 764.3, the court must state why a bench warrant was used over a summons. These warrants remain active until the judge recalls them. The clerk can check if a bench warrant is open on a case.
